General guidelines for efficient use of time:
- Don’t rest except to reset the exhaustion debuff. If you plan your cake production right, you should have enough after the 2nd day to never rest, then start cranking out carrot fillets along with cakes when your garden starts producing.
- Sell stones for money right away
- Later, sell simple iron bits to the blacksmith for money
- Later, sell bronze and silver star wine to the innkeeper and gold star wine to the merchant for money
- Don’t get too excited about resurrecting zombies to help you. The corpse quality on those and the high faith cost early in the game makes it a total waste. You need at least 3 to have any automation at all. One will get you some energy savings with production, but it’ll be SLOW and energy is cheap (cake, wine, and carrot fillets, yo)
- Don’t buy more than half of a merchant’s supply unless you’re really desperate. The price goes way up. For example, if the milk lady has 8 milks, they cost 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 22, 32. Holy crap. Triple price of first for the last. Maybe buy ¾ of the stock without getting too hosed on price.
Zero to sermon in one week
- (MONEY) Immediately after graveyard bit, gather 35 stone
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Walk to town, gathering red flowers on the way (need 10 total)
- (MONEY) After wheat field, immediately go north, and sell stone to stone cutter (+5~ silver)
- (CAKE GATE) Gather from honey tree on honey yard and near stone cutter; eat one honey if you don’t have the energy to gather from both trees
- (TECH UNLOCK) Go to tavern, exhaust Horadric’s dialogue
- (MONEY) Sell burial cert (+1.5 silver)
- (STUFF) Buy teleportation stone (-2 silver)
- (FREE STUFF) (MERCHANT UNLOCK) Do blacksmith quest
- Return to horadric at tavern
- (TIME CRITICAL) Wait around for Ms. Charm. She shows up before dawn on female-symbol day.
- (VENDOR UNLOCK) Talk to Ms Charm, exhaust all dialogue.
- If she’s not there, wait around for a bit and she’ll walk up from the town. If you’re inside when she appears, you’ll need to leave the tavern and re-enter to trigger her dialogue.
- (MERCHANT UNLOCK) Exhaust the Poet’s dialogue unlocks the Astronomer’s merchant menus.
- (CAKE GATE) Go get more honey (you need 5 total)
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Should be daytime now; buy peat from guy outside cow farm (all, it’s cheap, but at least 10)
- (CAKE GATE) Optionally buy sticks from the guy above the guy selling peat; you can use these to make your cakes in a bit (10 sticks = 2 cakes)
- (CAKE TIME) Buy 2 milk from the lady below the cow yard
- (CAKE GATE) (TECH UNLOCK) Go east, buy 2 eggs from the egg basket
- (CAKE GATE) (TECH UNLOCK) Go east to the Hermit, and complete the honey quest
- (CORPSE SUPPLY) (BLUE POINTS GATE) Buy an oil (required) and 8 hemp seeds (optional) from the hermit
- (TELEPORT UNLOCK) Go further east to the lighthouse, talk to the lighthouse keeper
- (INGREDIENT SUPPLY - OPTIONAL) Dig up stumps near the apple orchard by the lighthouse; these spots will regrow into apple trees (one on the main path, 2 on the south fork of the road to the lighthouse)
- (SAVE) Warp back home, fully rest
- (TECH UNLOCK) Go to the path south of the garden on the way to town to trigger a Gerry cutscene
- (GARDEN GATE) (TIME CRITICAL) By now it should be just about midnight on stick with crescent moon on top day, with the day just having changed. This is merchant day. You want to have examined the garden post and made your way back to town with another haul of stone by midday. The merchant departs at sundown.
- (CAKE GATE) Gather berries from the bushes by the garden
- (GARDEN GATE) Examine the signpost in the garden
- (MONEY) Gather stone from around and above your house, 13~ or so will be enough to exhaust the stonecutter’s money at this point. Your pickaxe will likely break if you get much more than that (about 60~ stone gathered total since game start), but that’s not a huge deal.
- (CAKE GATE) Gather honey from the trees up the left path from your house
- (CAKE GATE) Gather berries from up here too
- (CAKE GATE) Go into your cellar and gather from one of the sacks. Leave the other stuff alone for now.
- (CAKE GATE) Make pastry dough at the cooking table
- (CAKE GATE) Put some sticks in the stove in your house
- (CAKE GATE COMPLETE) Start makin’ cakes!
- (GARDEN GATE) Warp to the Dead Horse tavern, talk to Horadric about the garden
- (GARDEN GATE) Go talk to the merchant just down and to the left from the Dead Horse
- Taking out the loan is not necessary, you get enough money from selling stone, and it’s annoying having to pay it back, though there’s plenty of time between the end of the vegetable quest and the start of the next important quest that you’d be able to earn it no problem. The only benefit to getting the loan is buying a few more seeds up front.
- (MONEY) Sell your stone
- (GARDEN GATE) Go south from the stonecutter to the wheat field and turn south at the fork in the middle of the wheat field
- (GARDEN GATE) Buy seeds from the farmer by the house. If your timing is off he may have gone inside, just stick around, he doesn’t stay inside 1. long. You should have some time to spare and it’s worth the wait vs having to walk all the way back out. You can kill time by chopping the small trees for sticks and gathering berries from his garden.
- 8 beets (should never need more than this unless you really like the beet aesthetic)
- 8 cabbage (might need slightly more than this in the future for burgers)
- As many carrots as you can afford (you’ll be scarfing carrot fillets until the wine starts flowing and you’re rich as hell)
- As much wheat as you can afford (FOR CAKE!)
- (SAVE) Warp back home, rest to save, eat a cake for energy (but wait until your energy is completely empty as it nearly restores it to full)
- (CAKE GATE) Make more cake with your sticks for fuel! (may need to gather more honey)
- (GARDEN GATE) Plant your seeds in the garden! Don’t forget to use peat for fertilizer
- It should be about sunrise on the green circle with horns day
- (ADHD GATE) Now you’ll probably be tempted to start crafting up a storm in the workyard. Don’t do that.
- (REPAIR) Repair your shovel!
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Grab 10 stone, your 10 red flowers, and 10 peat moss and head to the graveyard
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Dig out all the branches
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) There are 4 graves with stone stuff in a square. Let’s get strategic!
- The maximum benefit allocation of repair kits is as follows: 1. (+3) Repair the bottom-left stone cross but NOT the stone fence 1. (+2) Repair the top-left headstone but NOT the stone fence 1. (+2) Repair the top-right headstone. Ignore the wood fence. 1. (+2) Repair the bottom-right stone fence
- Effin A. Maximum stone repair kit efficiency.
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) (+4) Repair the wood crosses on the 3rd and 4th graves from the left, with counting starting at the +3 stone cross grave in the 1. 2nd row from the bottom.
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) You should be at -8 graveyard quality. Pretty good!
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Plant 5 flower beds. Hopefully you didn’t make your first grave over one of the flowerbed spots. If you did, that’s unfortunate, but you should have enough time to make repair kits and/or replacement wood grave markers/crosses/fences to make up the difference to hit +5 quality.
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) By this point (sundown on green circle with horns day) a new corpse should have arrived.
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Unlock Tech!
- Anatomy and Alchemy > Hardspares, Softspares
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Dig out the skull, then haul it to the graveyard
- Meat, bone, skin, blood, fat are all pretty pointless right now, and cost a lot of energy to harvest, so skip them. You’ll need the skull for the upcoming quest on moonday.
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Planting new corpses in the graveyard is a waste of time right now since you may not have resources to take advantage of any corpse quality rating, so just leave it at the entrance of the graveyard. We’ll use it in a moment.
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Dig up the corpse in the corner as Yorick asked you to.
- This is a nice corpse. Drop it off outside the graveyard and grab the one you already mutilated.
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Head to the river with the previously-mutilated corpse, and toss it in
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Haul the quality corpse back to the exam table, dig out the blood and fat ONLY. If RNG doesn’t make you make a mistake, you’ll end up with a level 7 corpse (nice!) (I’m 0/2 mistakes while making this tutorial). This can be made into a +11 corpse later with embalming!
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Haul it back to the graveyard and bury it in the same grave.
- The logic for the Yorick quest doesn’t care which corpse you threw in the river. It seems to just check for 1. Was that particular plot exhumed, and then 1. Was a corpse thrown in the river 1. (order here might not even be important; it might be that the first step is completely unnecessary, but it’s a good chance to earn another 1.5 silver and improve the corpse quality)
- (CORPSE MANAGEMENT) Go back to the graveyard and bury the level 7 corpse.
- (SAVE) Go back home and sleep briefly to save
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) You still don’t need to gather iron, as you can find nails to make the grave markers by chopping up the wood in your cellar. I get around 5, which makes 5 wooden markers.
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Unlock Tech!
- Building > Sawing, Woodworking
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Chop a tree or 2
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Build a sawhorse and cut two logs into flitches
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Build a carpenter’s workbench
- (GRAVEYARD GATE) Make 2~3 wooden grave markers
- (AREA UNLOCK) (TIME CRITICAL) By this point it should be about sunrise on male-symbol day. This is Inquisitor day. Talk to Gerry, then head toward town at mid-morning to trigger a cutscene.
- (MONEY) Gather the stones on the left side of witch hill. Go down a level and get those too if you like.
- (SAVE) Warp back to your home and rest quickly to save.
- (MONEY) Gather more stone for your next trip to town; there should be some left up to the left of the church, and more up on the hill by the honey
- (CAKE GATE) Maybe go get more honey and berries from the hill above your house to make more cakes
- (TIME CRITICAL) It should be the start of moonday, just after midnight. Time to get your ink on. Grab that skull you harvested earlier and warp to the Dead Horse Inn.
- (MONEY) Sell your burial cert. Walk up to the stone cutter and sell your stone.
- (STOCK UP) Buy sticks at the wood guy, milk at the farm lady, and eggs and 3 feathers at the egg basket. Make sure you have at least 1.5 silver left. Buy some hemp seeds at the hobo if you have extra cash. Or save it for wheat/carrot seeds. Skip the seeds and sticks if it’s tight. Definitely buy milk, eggs, and the 3 feathers. Even those things you can always come back for in a day or 2. If you don’t have enough for ink, you wait an entire week before being able to use the writing desk.
- (ITEM UNLOCK) (QUEST) Walk east to the lighthouse, talk to the astrologer, watch him stroke his beard and act weird about asking for a skull. Exhaust his dialogue. He might give you the key, but you might also need to have met Snake for this to happen, which we haven’t done yet. Don’t worry, this part won’t really impact us yet.
- (STOCK UP) Gather apples from the 5 apple trees near the lighthouse.
- (SAVE) Warp back home and save. Make cakes.
- (GARDEN GATE) Harvest your crops!
- (GARDEN GATE) Tech unlock!
- Farming and nature > Decay
- (GARDEN GATE) get some sticks and make some compost piles. I like to use the oddly shaped column to the left side of the garden. Compost all the way down.
- (TIME CRITICAL) Sun should be coming up on Sunday. Time for church! Head over to the graveyard. Make sure you’re at +5 quality. Replace any grave parts necessary to get there. It shouldn’t take more than 2-3. Talk to the dude when you’re ready.
- Get that corpse by the morgue and hack out all the stuff
- Tech Unlock: Important Parts
- Go to the church basement
- (AREA UNLOCK) Chop down all the stuff in the church basement.
- Tech Unlocks
- Paper crafting
- Build church workbench to craft paper and such
- This requires anvil building and iron gathering. Have fun!
- Tech needed 1. (50 red, 5 green) Primitive forging, Advanced forging 1. (20 red) Tools 1. (10 red, 5 green) Firewood 1. (10 red, 10 green) Mining
- Use paper to get science points, then Study the heart/intestines/brain you just harvested for 50 blue points (only get to study one since you only have 3 faith, all give 50). If you didn’t/can’t get those things, go remove the +3 cross gravestone and study that.
- First blue point unlocks:
- Week 1 1. (5) Writing supplies 1. (5) Writing 1. (5) Light of Faith 1. (5) Comfort of Faith 1. (30) Inborn blacksmith (extra parts) (huge!)
- Week 2 1. (10) Master gatherer (adds 1 to flower, mushroom, berry gathers, makes flower-refuelling reasonably possible, minus 2 to gather, plus 6 from eating) 1. (20) Woodcutter (extra firewood/logs) (less huge but still hugeish) 1. (10) Sawmill 1. (10) Glassblower?
- Next things to do
- Talk to Snake asap by breaking down the barrier to the town shortcut
- Farm the crap out of carrots
- Find the quarry
- Start cranking out simple iron pieces and nails
- Unlock wine-making and start buying grape seeds from the merchant
- Max out the church quality ASAP; once you get 5 faith, make the faith prayer 1. You should be rolling in the dough from selling stones/simple iron bits so that you can just buy candles from the priest to boost your faith output on sundays
- Progress Snake’s/Ms Charm’s quest lines (10 faith needed total)
- Break down the stuff in the basement to connect the areas/open shortcuts
- Sell your extra cabbage/beets (keep 12 of each to turn in to the merchant)
